Day Block

This novel masonry unit was designed with the idea of using material tectonics as a prominent design element. Unlike most interlocking masonry, the mechanisms that create the connection are made visible. The design features corresponding positive and negative parts that interlock vertically and can turn a 90 degree angle. The contours require the plasticity of concrete cast in a rubber mold and can cast a brick every 24 hours. Since each block is produced by hand, color can be customized to enhance the rhythmic profile, making the block highly configurable and continually visually interesting. The interlocking block is patent-pending and I am currently exploring manufacturing options.
